  1. While doing transactions always check if  URL begins with ‘https’.
  2. Always keep  unique and strong passwords. Avoid keeping same password for different online accounts.
  3. For social media sites or while signing with social media sites always use email that is not used for important communications.
  4. Never use unsecured public Wi-Fi for any transaction or even to access social media profiles
  5. To download any free software read all reviews regarding the software and also find out where it is hosted.
  6. Always access bank’s website by manually typing its URL or with google search. Never access it from any email or a text message.
  7. Never download attachments from unknown email.
  8. Always take regular backups of all your important files. This has been very critical with rise of ransomware attacks in 2016.

Email Security Best Practices 2017 : Don’t

  1. Stop sharing personal information public on social media sites.
  2. Avoid ‘Keep me logged in’ or ‘Remember me’ options on websites, especially on public devices.
  3. Never use official email address for social media sites.
  4. Never save auto-fill features of browser for personal information such as name, date of birth, address etc.
  5. Use pop-up ads blocker that may come up on your screen.
  6. Avoid visiting inappropriate websites.
  7. Don’t use your personal email account for work purposes.
  8. Change password regularly.
  9. Always log out of accounts when you are done. This is very important when using public computer.
  10. Do not install software that comes as an attachment in emails.
  11. Avoid saving your credit/debit card information on websites and web browsers.
  12. Never share your personal/bank details on phone, email or SMS.
